About Budget Sheet Hub

Budget Sheet Hub is an independent guide to budget spreadsheet templates and the budgeting methods behind them. We exist because the honest answer to “which budget spreadsheet should I use?” is usually “a free one”, and most content in this space is written to sell you something instead. We compare free and paid options side by side, quote prices from each vendor’s own page, and link the primary source for every number.

How we research

Every price and statistic on this site is taken from a named primary source and linked: Vertex42’s template page for its download counts and license, Tiller’s pricing page, YNAB’s pricing page, NerdWallet for the 50/30/20 definition, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for its four-step budgeting framework. When we can’t verify a figure, we describe it qualitatively and say so rather than inventing a number, for example, we don’t quote a precise Monarch price because we couldn’t confirm one.

Our editorial rules

• Prices are quoted from the vendor’s own page, with the date we checked.
• Free options are recommended first when they do the job, which for manual budgeting, they usually do.
• We never claim a product does something it doesn’t. Tiller syncs banks; free templates don’t; we say so plainly.
• Content is informational, not financial advice. Verify current prices before buying.
